Bit by bit to the new look.
byte, the Bavarian Agency for Digitalisation, has been shaping the digital transformation of public administration in the Free State of Bavaria since 2022. We have worked closely with the digitalisation experts to give the brand a sharper profile.
Exciting: the task
Playful, lively, colourful – the Bavarian digital agency no longer wanted to look like a young creative agency. The aim was to let the brand grow up: more straightforward, more professional and more confident. However, there should still be room for creativity, freedom and unconventional thinking.
Leading the way: the brand compass
The byte team got involved in a workshop: How should the brand be perceived in the future? Together, they developed a brand compass that serves as a tool for reviewing all branding measures and creating a consistent overall image.
Proven: the logo
It was clear from the outset that the byte logo would remain untouched. We therefore used it as a valuable basis for the next steps in the brand sharpening process. From the inspiration for the colour scheme to graphic elements such as the pulse, there are repeated references to the tried-and-tested logo – giving the entire brand identity a cohesive and consistent look.
Consistent: the world of colour
Strength through reduction – that was the motto when developing the colour scheme. The primary corporate colour is byte blue. Secondary colours are sky blue and breeze blue. Although the colour midnight blue is part of the frequently used colour gradients, it is not used as an accent colour in its own right.
Unique: the graphic elements
Pulse, Pulse Pattern and Midnight Gradient: recurring, unmistakable graphic elements characterise the appearance alongside the logo, colour and font. The striking colour gradient, the bar in the characteristic blue and the fragile dot grid can either be used individually or combined with each other.
Progressive: the typography
Untitled Sans is used exclusively as the corporate font, which is characterised by its functional modernity. Clear font hierarchies, various options for highlighting and labelling as well as uniform specifications for animating text ensure a consistent typeface.
Concise: the icon set
Small signs – strong appearance! With its own icon set, byte conveys a lot of information in a very small space. Although the library already contains several elements, it can continue to grow. That’s why the Brand Portal provides helpful tips on the design language for creating new icons in the typical byte look.
Current: the Brand Portal
The online platform collects all relevant brand information about byte in one centralised location: from the brand compass to the use of the logo and the global design principle. In addition, specific guides on the design of business stationery, job adverts, advertising material etc. are also stored there – always up to date.
Overarching: the design principle
Maximum flexibility, cross-media usability and high recognition value: this is the design principle that makes byte unmistakable. The interplay of visually strong graphic elements and expressive images creates a lively and dynamic design system.
Attention-grabbing: the adverts
It’s all about attention! The layout system also proves that it works in all formats in the form of adverts. The design grid is so variable that a good balance can be created despite a wide variety of elements – whether with a large image, bullet points or lots of text.
Accessible to everyone: the website
The Bavarian digital agency is setting a good example itself. Based on our corporate design, the digital agency Ray Sono has realised a convincing website: The design is responsive, the content is barrier-free and the content is unique.
Near & there: the social media channels
As the central consulting and support unit for digital transformation in Bavaria, byte is at home where its target groups are active. Social networks are therefore of particular importance. Thanks to many different template formats, the consistency of the brand presence is maintained across all social media channels – from informative job adverts to snappy statement posts.
